Menya. China Town

Friday night dinner time!,I've been looking forward to go the one of my favourite Japanese Ramen restaurants;Menya which is located in china town. Their soup here are sensational, and it consist of four variation of Tonkotsu soup base ( pork bone soup). The different soup based is up to the customer to choose to form the basis of flavour for their Ramen(noodles) and caters to different taste buds.

1)Menya Tonkotsu - made by simmering selected pork bones for more than 10 hours with fresh vegetables to enhance the flovors, the result is a rich creamy white soup.

2) Shoyu Tonkotsu (soy based tonkotsu soup) - combing quality soy sauce with seafood flavours to the pork bone soup creating a harmony of flavours. it is the most popular and traditional soup in Japan.

3) Miso Tonkotsu (miso based tonkotsu soup) with the use of the finest miso paste, rang of spices and seafood flavours that collaborated with the pork bone soup.

4) Wafu Tonkotsu (seafood soup and tonkotsu soup) a seafood based soup that combines bonito flakes and kelp seaweeds to the pork bone soup to make it light but strong, enhancing the flavours.

We decided to go for the popular one "Shoyu Tonkotsu" soup based for our ramen. ordering the Ni-tamago ramen(shoyu tonkotsu) and the Tom-toro ramen(roasted pork). We have a strategy in relation to the topping of the ramens, the Ni-tamago has boil eggs as its topping (perpare with a special sauce and style) and the Tom-toro has roasted pork for its topping. so we would share half to each other to have more of a variety:)

Its was around 6:40 pm and already there were a lot of people sited and eating, we waited for 1around 10mins to be sited (but its worth waiting for) . The setting of the restaurant is quite small, so to save space there is a large communal table. So if you are looking for a romantic and private restaurant this is not for you.

Sylvia and Fran's The Upper Crust. Collaroy

A beautiful warm spring Sunday afternoon, our destination is to the picturesque suburb of Collaroy located on Northen beach. Our food subject this time... PIES!,Sylvia and Fran's The Upper Crust are famous for their home made pies and pasties. The pies there are deliciously good and are loaded with savoury or sweet filings and toppings, the weight of the pies are 3x the average once you get from the take away stores.

The chicken, avocado and brie here are the most popular, so we definitely going to order that. when we arrive to the shop and already  there were 4 people waiting in line, we decided to order 3 pies to share between the two of us. It took us awhile to decide what the other two pies we were going to order, due to the varieties of selections they offer. At last we decided on the chunky beef and mushroom pie and the creamy potatoes pie along with the chicken, avocado and brie pie.

We have to wait 5 more minutes for the chicken and avocado pie to be finished baking, because they were sold out. but it was something worth waiting for.

Design and Storyboard

We intend for our blog to look like this.

The text will be located in the center of the page with pictures included where appropriate. We made the decision to place our gadgets to either side of the text in order to make them more accessible to our readers. Rather than having to scroll down or up to find the relevant gadget they will (ideally) have everything located on the screen.
At the top of our  blog we will have a banner displaying our blog’s heading, ‘Bon Appetit’  in a stylish but easy to read font and next to it we shall have a few pictures of delicious meals. The purpose of doing so is to explain, visually, to our readers what we are all about.
Our group decided to err towards a welcoming and inclusive theme for our blog. Although a professional theme was our first instinct, we felt that it might intimidate casual readers. To this end we decided to use simple colours and simple fonts as opposed to harsh colours and overly flowery fonts.

El Jannah. Granvile

Date: 04.september 2010
Destination: Granville
El Jannah

Saturday night, we arrive at our destination Granville around 7pm, as we made a right turn past the street where the restaurant was located; we can smell the smoky char grill chicken through our car windows and at that moment we knew we’ve arrived. Excitedly we hunt for parking, to our luck a car was just leaving on the other side of the road, 3 shops away from the restaurant “Joy”. (Oh there is a lot of street parking around the area within minutes or seconds away)
Grill station

When we walked in, there were already many of people queuing to order. Most of the tables were not occupied yet, so we decided to grab a table first and then order as we know it’s going to be packed with diners very soon. The menu offers many different selections, but I was here for the legendary homemade “garlic sauce” and their mouth-watering tender “char grill chicken”. My two other friend was tossing between the char grill chicken or the chicken wrap (highly recommended).
char-grill chicken -half chicken meal $10.50 or $5.50 take away- whole chicken meal $19.90 or take away $10.50
Famous home made garlic sauce, goes well with just about anything "to die for"

We decided to order half chicken meal which consisted of ½ chicken, Lebanese bread, mix pickles and Garlic sauce. Just to satisfy our stomach we order a large bowl of chip to share.
Pickles

The food came very quickly and by that time all the tables were taken the flow of customer kept coming, with many opting for take-away. The serving size were very generous, the bowl of chips was huge (golden and sparkled with chicken salt).
Golden chips - small $4.00 or large $6.00

How to eat hmm...table manners are not needed here, we rip our Lebanese bread apart into smaller pieces and use it to pull apart the chicken, add a good dollop of garlic sauce and stack the pickles on top to make a mini wrap “simply delicious”
With food that tasty and delicious, the price you pay; no wonder they have so many happy repeat customers.

Our first post! How exciting, first of all we would take this opportunity to say welcome to our first food blog. This blog is here to provide readers with personal reviews on the food served up by a few of Sydney's restaurants.

We'll be posting reviews on cuisine. It is intended that reviews will have a picture of the food being reviewed, a description of the establishment and a critical examination of the food it serves.

Over the coming weeks expect our latest reports on what you should be eating in Sydney.
